Asbestos Inspections and SurveysA material is considered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to be asbestos containing material (ACM) if at least one sample of a building material contains asbestos in a quantity greater than one percent (>1%). Materials containing asbestos in a quantity greater than 1 % typically include floor tile, floor tile mastic, wall board, joint compound, spray applied ceiling materials, spray applied fireproofing, roofing materials, and thermal system insulation such as pipe wrap materials. The purpose of the asbestos survey is to provide information (type and quantity) regarding the presence of accessible and/or exposed building materials that commonly contain asbestos. This information becomes crucial in the appraisal value calculated for residential and commercial buildings and in the evaluation and assessment of human health risks. Dozens of asbestos inspection and survey projects have been performed and numerous asbestos abatement projects have been conducted by Environmental Realty Services.
